The harvesting or bulb shovel is perfectly suited for working close to the ground. The wide, pointy blade has a large surface area for the size of the shovel so it can penetrate the ground with ease. It is a traditional tool used to harvest bulbs and potatoes but is also well suited for making planting holes in borders and raised beds.

The handle of the bulb shovel is quite short by design so you can work with precision and comfort on your knees close to the crops. This way you do not damage any crop that is about to be harvested.
